More than 80% of Christians report never opening their Bible outside of Sunday morning services. Let that sink in for a minute. If the Bible is our sacred, God-breathed GPS for doing life as a follower of Jesus, then why wouldn’t we want to read it? What’s more, if we are called to truly know Jesus on a personal level and walk with Him, don’t we need to at least read the books that give us first-hand accounts of His life and ministry?
Reading the Bible offers countless benefits to believers, whether it’s your first time cracking it open or your tenth. We have a variety of reading plans available to fit your interest and schedule. Most of our plans require no more than 15 minutes of reading per day! No matter which plan you choose, whether a full-year plan or a two-week plan, the important thing is that you’re committing to spending more time in God’s Word. Our prayer as you begin reading is that you would gain a better understanding of God’s character and grow deeper in your relationship with our Savior.
This one-year reading plan is designed to help you build a regular rhythm of spending time in the Word. As you journey through the entire Bible, you’ll discover God’s heart, His promises, and His story of redemption from beginning to end. Let His Word shape you, guide you, and draw you closer to Him every day.
You can find even more Bible reading and prayer resources on our spiritual growth resource page. Here, you’ll find dozens of different items to help you grow deeper in your faith.
Our plan uses the English Standard Version (ESV) of the Bible, but you can use whichever translation you prefer. Reference and study Bibles are great options as well. The only type of Bible we recommend not using is a chronological Bible, because it will likely be laid out differently than the plan we’re following. You can also always use your Bible App.
For a comprehensive list of Bibles we recommend for all ages, visit our spiritual growth resources page.
A study guide isn’t required to participate in any of our Bible reading plans. All you need is the plan you’ve chosen and your Bible! You can follow along either digitally or pick up a printed copy of our reading plans at the Connections Center.
Absolutely! Encourage anyone and everyone around you to join the plan. If you’re doing a plan in the YouVersion Bible App, you’ll have options to share the plan with friends via text, email, direct message, and more. If you’re doing a physical plan, feel free to share this webpage with them or grab a printed plan for them when you’re at church!
You sure can! All our printed plans can be found in the Connections Center at church any time throughout the year. For plans that have an accompanying book or devotional, we also have purchase links on our spiritual growth resources page.
Follow these five steps to join us as we explore the Word of God and learn how to live more like Christ. Note that you can only read the full Bible plan in the YouVersion app. Our New Testament plan was created just for Journey. If that’s the plan you choose, you’ll have to do follow the printable plan or follow along with the plan in our JCI app.
Once you’ve created your YouVersion account, set Journey as your church. To do this, search for “Journey Church International” in the Discover area. Select our church’s profile (hint: look for our JCI logo), then click “Set As My Church.” Choose who you want to see this update, and you’re done!
Now you’re ready to join our featured Bible reading plan. Navigate to our church’s profile, if you aren’t already on it, and scroll down to see our Featured Plan. Select our featured plan logo and then click on “Start Plan” from the plan overview page.
Jump in and get to reading! Each day in the app will give you the day’s reading along with a brief video to watch before each reading. Once you’ve completed that day’s passage, you can discuss what you’ve read with any friends with whom you’re doing the plan with. (Check out our FAQs to see how to read as a group!)
Reading together is always better than reading alone! If you’re jumping into either one of our reading plans with us, let us know by filling out the form linked below.
Reading the Bible is for all ages! Getting your kids and/or students involved with our yearly study of God’s Word is a great way to help them know Jesus better and grow as Christians. We have several options and recommendations depending on your child’s age group. You can find those and more resources (like kids’ Bible recommendations) on our Come & Surrender resources page.
