Throughout the Bible, God asks that we share the Gospel and make disciples. But that calling isn’t limited to the borders of our city, our nation, or even our continent. In Mark 16:15, Jesus says, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”
It’s because of the Great Commission that we’re so passionate about global missions. We may just be a church in Lee’s Summit, but we want to have a lasting impact around the world. There are many ways we accomplish this, but most of our efforts can be grouped into three areas:
We believe that every person at Journey who is a follower of Jesus has a responsibility to be involved in missions through actively praying, giving, or going (Pray. Give. Go.).
PRAY
Every believer in Jesus can pray! It’s not necessary to be a pastor, teacher, or have a seminary degree to pray, but is something every believer can do to be involved in God’s Global Kingdom. We can do this by praying for our missionaries and global partners, for unreached people groups, and for God to send more people to the mission field. JCI has a Global Impact prayer team that meets regularly to share updates from our missionaries and pray for them. (Mathew 9:37-38, 1 Thessalonians 3:10)
GIVE
Every believer can give, whether it be through finances, resources, or time. We believe that we are all blessed to be a blessing to others so that God may be glorified. One way to give is by financially supporting an on-the-field missionary. Another way is by donating clothes and resources to a local refugee organization. Sponsoring a child is another way to participate through giving or by supporting a student seeking to serve on a short-term mission trip. God promises to bless those who give, and those who give will receive the blessings of being a part of that work. (Philippians 4:18)
GO
Not everyone is called to be a missionary, but everyone can still make a global impact through going on a short-term mission trip! Joining a Global Impact trip is life changing not only for those we get to serve, but also for those who go on the trips. Some are even called to go to the mission field as long term missionaries because of these trips! Some may not be able to travel overseas, though another way to “go” is by serving with a cross-cultural ministry that serves refugees from unreached people groups right here in our city.
Through these initiatives, we’re able to be a catalyst for spiritual revival all across the globe. Take a look at some of the places we’re currently impacting and building up God’s Kingdom!
