In Nehemiah 9, we find the longest recorded prayer in the Bible—a powerful example of what it looks like to pursue purpose through prayer. Righteous prayer begins with worship, recognizing and celebrating who God is, and it remembers all that He has done, including the ways we have experienced His power, provision, and protection. As we remember God’s faithfulness, we are reminded that His grace gives us what we don’t deserve and His mercy withholds what we do deserve—even when we have been unfaithful to Him. Righteous prayer also leads us to repentance, bringing our sin honestly before God, and ultimately reveals a heart surrendered to His plan for the world and our purpose within it. When we pray with worship, remembrance, repentance, and surrender, we position our hearts to recognize that our purpose isn’t ultimately about us—it’s about joining God in what He is doing in the world.
