Kids Ministry

Inspiring God’s Children to Follow Jesus and Change the World

At Journey Church International, we believe in investing in the next generation of Christ followers so they can be disciples who make disciples and be catalysts for change that glorifies God. That’s why we have a whole church ministry dedicated to our youngest believers.

The prayer and hope of our Journey Kids ministry is to encourage and equip parents as spiritual leaders, introduce kids to other adults who show Jesus through the way they lead and teach, and connect kids to age-appropriate teaching so they can learn about Jesus.

By committing to this mission, we can raise our kids to live like Christ, demonstrate God’s love in all situations, and make a difference that impacts nations.

“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”

52 Key Questions

As Christians, being able to understand why we believe what we believe is critical! That’s why we’ve created our 52 Key Questions of the Christian Life. These questions are a make up of essential faith questions and their Biblical answers. Throughout 2025, we’ll learn about and memorize the top 12 most foundational truths to help our Journey Kids understand the essentials of the Christian faith. We want to equip you with these questions and answers so you can help your child understand and memorize these foundational truths.

What Our Kids Ministry Values

Age-Appropriate Teaching

Our class environments and lessons are tailored to the age and developmental level of each child. We take a creative approach to teaching Jesus and the Bible so it’s easy to understand and engaging for your kids.

Relationship Building

We want to help strengthen the relationship between you and your child, while also offering opportunities for them to meet other adults who model Jesus.

Parent Partnership

As a parent, you’re responsible for nurturing your child’s faith. Our Journey Kids team cares deeply about working with each family so you can provide your child with guidance not only in life, but also on their spiritual journey.

Fun

We believe learning about Jesus should be fun! Our Sunday church services for kids include music, games, activities, and interactive experiences to help your child grow in their faith.

Checking In to Our Kids Ministry as a First-Time Guest

When you visit us for the first time, one of our friendly volunteers will show you to our children’s area, and our Journey Kids team will meet you at one of our kids’ first-time guest check-in kiosks. You’ll be asked to answer a few questions about your family: your name, your phone number, how many children you have, their names, birthdates, and any allergies or special instructions we should know about.

You can save yourself some time by pre-registering online. When you arrive on Sunday our team will walk you through the final steps of our check-in process. (Pre-registration must be received no later than 7:00 P.M. on Saturday the weekend you plan to attend.)

Each checked-in child will receive a name tag with a security code. Parents will receive a matching security code. If for any reason we need to contact you during the service, your child’s security code will appear on the screens in the Worship Center. If you see your child’s security code, please exit the Worship Center and head to their room. Parents must have their security code for pick-up. If you no longer have your security code, you will be asked to show your ID at the kids’ first-time guest check-in area.

What to Expect from Our Kids Ministry

Our Journey Kids ministry takes place during all adult service times — 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 A.M. Depending on your child’s age, they’ll participate in our Journey Jr. or JKids programming.

Journey Junior

EARLY CHILDHOOD

Birth through Kindergarten

Infants/Toddlers

Our attentive team will take excellent care of your little one while you attend service. As your child grows, our volunteers focus on play with a purpose and start to introduce Bible stories and activities. Please label bottles, diaper bags, and pacifiers before drop-off.

Preschool/Pre-K/Kindergarten
(3 to 5 years old, potty trained)

Children will start in their classroom with activities that introduce the Bible story, then move to large-group time for worship songs, a full Bible story, and offering. They will return to their classroom for a snack and fun activities that reinforce the Bible story.

Journey Kids

ELEMENTARY

1st through 5th Grade

1st through 3rd Grade

Children will begin by creating connections with their leaders and other kids their age. All grades will then come together for high-energy worship, an interactive Bible teaching, prayer, and offering. After the large-group gathering, children will close their time together by reviewing the Bible story and participating in activities that reinforce the Bible story with their grade level.

4th through 5th Grade

Our oldest kids have the opportunity to connect with their peers and Jesus in an exciting environment! When kids arrive 15 minutes early to service, they can play games and meet new friends. Once service begins, they’ll enjoy worship, a Bible story, and guided discussion with other kids and their small group leaders.

How Our Kids Ministry Team Partners with You

Child Dedication

We believe that baptism is a personal and important choice, regardless of age. That being said, we do offer child dedication, which gives parents the opportunity to share their faith with family and friends and have their community pray specifically for their child. Submit our online form to learn more about dedicating your child at our church in Lee’s Summit.

Special Environment for New Mothers

We provide a dedicated nursing mother’s area in the kids’ wing of our church center. Our Journey Kids team will be happy to walk you to the room at any time during service.

Become a Kids Ministry Volunteer

Have a heart for kids? We’d love for you to serve with our Journey Kids team! We’re always looking for new volunteers to help out as small group leaders, worship leaders, service coordinators, curriculum preppers, check-in assistants, and more. If you’re interested in getting involved or want more information about our serving opportunities, fill out our online form.
